Margaret Strang Corothers was born in 1871 to John Strang and Jean McDowall Strang and grew up on the Strang farm near Norway, Benton County, Iowa. After her marriage to Mallie Corothers she lived on a farm first near Dell rapids in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, and later on a farm on the outskirts of Clear lake in Deuel County, South Dakota. She died in approximately 1934.

The family history was written by Margaret Strang Corothers in 1934 and retyped by the author's grand niece, Lois E. James, of Iowa City, Iowa, in 1996. It measures 0.4 liner inches. In it, the author describes the pioneer and later farm life of the McDowall and Wilson families in Tama County, Iowa, near the town of Norway, and the Corother's family in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, near the town of Dell Rapids. Of particular interest is the author's description of her father, John Strang's participation in the Civil War in Company K of the 11th Regiment of the Iowa Infantry Volunteers and subsequent reunions in Iowa of Crocker's Iowa Brigade.
