Paul Mitchell is the son of Frances L. Mitchell. Frances Mitchell moved with her children from Tacoma, Washington to join her husband in post-World War II Allied occupied Japan. From July of 1948 till December of 1948, Mitchell kept a diary of her voyage from Seattle, Washington to Tokyo, Japan. Paul Mitchell edited and compiled her diary in 2007.

The Paul Mitchell Papers consist of 89 pages of Paul Mitchell's digitally printed and edited version of Frances L. Mitchell's diary from 1948. Accompanying the diary entries are photos taken by Paul's father at the time of Frances Mitchell's writings.
