Wookey describes her childhood through her experiences at school and rural activities, such as the maintenance of bee hives, making mattresses out of corn husks and managing household tasks without electricity. Wookey also discusses childhood diseases and home remedies. In addition, Wookey recalls her experiences raising her family on a farm, and the death of her only son in a car accident. Several photographs are strewn throughout the memoir.
