In the 1960s Ruff earned her certification as an elementary and secondary school librarian from the University of Iowa. During the 1970s, she was the school librarian for the Amana schools.

The Henrietta Ruff papers date from 1985 to 1996 and consist of 3 items. Included are two articles Ruff wrote and a photograph of Ruff from 1994. The article entitled, "I Remember, I Remember," Ruff wrote for the Fiftieth Anniversary Book of Amana which was published in 1985. In it, she writes about her experiences teaching in the Amana schools. The other article is entitled, "Remembering 35 Years of Teaching."
