The New Art Club of Marion, Iowa was organized in 1935. The club had four charter members whose ranks quickly grew totwelve. The women intended to meet to work on projects of needlework and hand-crafts. The name of the club was undecided when a member phoned the local paper to announce that the new art club had been formed. When an item appeared in the paper about the"New Art" club the name stuck. The group met monthly mainly as a social club. In 1974, with dwindling membership and the increasing age of its members, the group disbanded.

The New Art Club of Marion, Iowa records date from 1939 to 1974 and measure 2.5 linear inches. The records consist of minutes, program calendars, a newspaper clipping, and a program booklet and photograph from the twentieth anniversary of the club in 1955.
