Catharine King Herr, born in 1885 in Cedar City, Iowa, was a farm wife all of her life. She married Herbert Neal Herr in 1906 and raised her family in the house she inherited from her grandfather. She kept a diary for thirty-three years, from 1945 until her death in 1978.

The excerpts from the diary of Catharine King Herr were transcribed by her son, King Herr.  They include 1976 and 1978 entries covering daily activities, family history and social interactions on the farm.  Photocopies of photographs of two corn cribs, the farmstead, Catharine Herr's parents and additional information are located at the end of the transcript.  An alphabetical index of the individuals mentioned in the transcript has been included with the diary excerpts.
