Elizabeth R. Miller, farm woman and state legislator, was born in 1905 in Timbercreek Township three miles southwest of Marshalltown. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1923, passed the state teacher's examination, and married John "Bascom" Miller the same year. They raised four children. She was active in the Red Cross, the Farm Bureau, the Federated Women's Clubs, and her church. She ran for the State House of Representatives as a Republican in 1968 and served two terms there. Miller served in the State Senate for two terms also. Altogether she served four years in the Iowa House and eight years in the Iowa Senate.

The Elizabeth R. Miller papers date from 1972 to 1984 and consist of 6 items: newspaper clippings, candidacy forms for the Iowa Senate race, and an autobiographical sketch written in 1984.
