Delvena Anderson worked as a library staff member for the State University of Iowa (now the University of Iowa) from 1911 to 1957. During a portion of that time she was a secretary to the Director of Libraries.

The Delvena Anderson diary is dated July 1958. The short, typed travel diary details Anderson's trip from Iowa City through Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine to the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Cape Breton Island. The diary includes numerous historical details about the areas in which Anderson traveled as well as her own personal experiences on the trip.
