Ida "Belle" Bandfield Holden was a schoolteacher in the Waterloo area at the turn of the century. She was married to Anson Holden and they had a daughter, Florence. Anson Holden died of tuberculosis in 1899, less than a month after Belle Holden's mother passed away. These deaths had a profound effect on Holden. She remarried in 1904 and shortly thereafter took her own life.

The Ida "Belle" Bandfield Holden papers date from 1898 to 1905 and measure 0.5 linear inches. They include a Holden family tree, photocopied photographs of various Holdens, including Belle and Anson, and Belle Holden's diary. The end of the diary contains Holden's obituary, further remarks on the Holden family, and excerpts from Holden's financial records. The remarks were written by Helen George and give a brief description of the family members mentioned in Holden's diary, as well as further information about her death. Belle Holden's diary details her daily routines as well as her frustration at her husband's illness and her grief following his death.
Beverly George Everett papers (IWA):  Everett is Holden's maternal granddaughter.
