Hazel Beck Andre, a resident of Ames, was married to Dr. Floyd Andre, Dean of Agriculture at Iowa State College (now Iowa State University). They had three children--two girls and one boy. Andre wrote the article, "My Last Wonderful Days," after she discovered that she was dying of cancer. It was her hope that "it might help someone else face such a crisis." Andre died in 1956, a few weeks after the article was written.

The Hazel Beck Andre papers consist of one article dated July 1956. The article was printed originally in Farm Journal and Country Gentleman (July 1956) and later reprinted in Reader's Digest.
